About Us

“at the beginning of the war, when someone was killed – no matter whether we knew him personally – we felt it deeply,we went to look. But when we became hardened,we didn’t even change direction when he was lying in front of us. We became hard”. (Jules Leroy)

Ged Ellis was Head of History at a Grammar School in Manchester and organised numerous World War 1 battlfield tours to the Somme in France and Ypres in Belgium on the Western Front – his specialist area. Many of his friends encouraged him to pursue this interest and suggested that he should start taking World War 1 battlefield tours for family groups and parties of friends and colleagues aswell. As a result Entente Cordiale Battlefield Tours was formed in 2007 with the help of his great friend Colin Whitehead.

Colin has run many successful enterprises for 20 years, and when the opportunity arose to pursue his own interest in the World War 1 battlefields he jumped at the chance to work with Ged.

Entente Cordial Battlefield Tours grew out our joint passion to preserve the memory of the World War 1 battlefields and of those who fought, including our own relatives. We believe our tours to be pretty unique. We come highly recommended and guests travel with us time and again. We have welcomed guests from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa and the USA. So if you are planning a World War 1 battlefields tour of the Somme in France and Ypres in Belgium either, in the near future or during the Centenary Commemorations during 2014-2018, then contact us for details.
